KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces will review and improve its security weaknesses and enforcement lapses in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) to deter intrusions and crimes, said Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.

"No doubt there are weaknesses ... Do not think there are no challenges within ourselves," he told reporters after receiving a RM200,000 sponsorship for the Malaysian Armed Forces Hockey Association here on Friday.

He was commenting on Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's statement that corruption and leakages were among the causes of continued intrusions in the coastal waters off Sabah and it was unfair to just blame weaknesses of assets.

At the event, the armed forces hockey team received the sponsorship from National Aerospace and Defence Industries (Nadi) for its participation in the fifth Indoor Hockey Championship in Taiwan from June 15.

Zulkifeli, who is also Armed Forces Hockey Association patron, received the sponsorship from Nadi chief executive officer Tan Sri Mohd Shahrom Nordin.

The Malaysian Armed Forces is pitted against Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Taiwan and Singapore in the championship. - Bernama
