PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded the statements of at least 10 people, including the mother, following the gruesome murder of toddler Siti Soffea Emelda Abdullah on Thursday.
City Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the statements were recorded to ascertain the motive for the killing.
“We are still looking into the connection between the suspect and the toddler’s parents.
“We urge those with information to come forward,” he said.
ACP Gan said police did not discount the suspect’s involvement with drugs following the discovery of what could be ganja on him.
“After the body was fished out from the river on Saturday, we found a transparent packet containing dried leaves believed to be ganja in his pocket,” he said.
He added that police are working closely with the National Registration Department to identify the suspect.
“We hope we can find out his identity through his fingerprints.”
It is learnt that police have sent the finger prints to the NRD and a tooth to the Police Criminal Records Department to determine his identity.
Police expect to get the results in two to three days.
On Thursday, the man was said to have abducted and beheaded the toddler with a ceramic tile on the banks of the Klang River near the Kuala Lumpur Commuter Station in Jalan Hishamuddin before jumping into the river.
Police found the body of the man floating in the Klang River near Bandar Sunway on Saturday.
A post-mortem revealed that the man drowned.
