PETALING JAYA: The gruesome murder of a two-year-old girl along Jalan Hishammuddin, close to the Klang River, on Thursday night has enraged the public, many of whom took to social media on Friday to vent their anger.
Facebook user Noon Sod wrote, “If (the suspect) really drowned, they better find his body, and cut his head for good measure. Just to be sure la. Better be safe than sorry.”
Miz Nyna was also furious, writing, “Just wish that the suspect gets eaten by crocodiles,” while @PhoebeShafinaz tweeted, “How could someone behead a two-year-old girl? What has she ever done to you that you make her and her family suffer? I just don’t understand.”
Some netizens expressed their support for the child’s 32-year-old homeless mother.
Iza Sofia Kasbi wrote, “This is heart-breaking. I have no words to describe my despair. Where is help for the homeless mum? Did she get any help or publicity upon realising her daughter was missing. Unfortunately, the homeless are always without a voice. This senseless murder is just too much. Sigh.”
A few, however, blamed the mother claiming that it was irresponsible of her to have left her toddler unattended while she had gone to the washroom at about 3pm that afternoon.
Napsiah Wan Salleh wrote, “Why didn’t the mother take the toddler along with her to the toilet? Left with friends who didn’t even realise the toddler was gone. Police should investigate the mother and friends also. Stupid mother putting her daughter in danger and sure enough the daughter was killed.”
According to police, the incident took place at around 9pm, Thursday.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said a witness saw the suspect forcing the girl to lie on the ground and using something to hit her on her head and neck.
Several people who saw the incident rushed to try to save the girl but the suspect continued hitting her, he said.
The suspect then attempted to flee by jumping into the river when he saw people rushing towards him.
Police believe the suspect drowned while attempting to evade capture.
SAC Gan said the mother told police that she had gone to a shopping complex in Pudu at about 3pm.
According to the mother, she had left her child with friends when she went to use to use the toilet. When she returned about five minutes later, she realised the girl was missing.
