GEORGE TOWN: Four hours before polling closed for the Bukit Gelugor by-election, a DAP MP’s mobile phone was allegedly hacked to send out SMSes to constituents declaring that the party had won.
Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim claimed in a WhatsApp chat group that his phone was hacked at about 1pm yesterday, with SMSes sent out reading: “DAP has won! Bukit Gelugor is ours.”
Sim said he only discovered this after receiving a few calls and text messages from strangers about the SMSes.
A party official lodged a police report and George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalatrash Wahid confirmed the report.
Sim was said to be the fifth DAP elected representative to have his phone hacked over the past few days.
Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, state executive councillors Chong Eng and Phee Boon Poh and Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer had all lodged police reports earlier about their phones being hacked to send out racist-themed SMSes.
