Fatal drive: Police and firemen assessing the damage done in the tragic accident that claimed a life at the Sutera Harbour traffic light in Kota Kinabalu.
KOTA KINABALU: A 40-year-old man died several hours after he was badly injured in an accident involving three vehicles near the Sutera Harbour traffic light junction here.
Lanson Mahil, from Kinarut, Papar, some 38km from the state capital, succumbed to head and bodily injuries.
Lanson was pronounced dead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here around 3am yesterday.
It was learnt that during the midnight mishap, Lanson, who was driving a Perodua Kelisa, was heading home from the city and had lost control of the vehicle before ramming into a Nissan Almera which had stopped at the traffic light junction.
Lanson’s Kelisa was then rammed by an Isuzu four-wheel-drive vehicle from behind, pinning Lanson in the mishap.
It took firemen about an hour to free him before he was rushed to the hospital.
Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said the victim was pronounced dead around 3am while being treated at the QEH intensive care unit.
Both the driver of the Nissan and the Isuzu, who are in their 30s, only sustained minor injuries, he said.
ACP Jauteh urged eyewitnesses to inform the police.
