'DAP has misled the Chinese'

BIDOR: The DAP has misled the Chinese by saying that PAS’ agenda was to form a welfare state and not an Islamic state to get the community to support PAS in the general election last year, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.

The support, he added, had strengthened the Islamist party, which was now pushing for a Private Member’s Bill to amend the Federal Constitution to implement hudud in Kelantan.

As such, Liow said DAP owed the Chinese an explanation for PAS’ hudud move, which came hardly a year after the general election.

He added that DAP had instead continued to confuse the people over hudud to divert their attention from what it had said to them a year ago.

“We (MCA) are very clear on our stand in rejecting hudud and protecting the Federal Constitution.

“PAS’ postponement of the tabling of the Bill is just a trick to gain votes from the Chinese and non-Muslims in the two upcoming by-elections,” Liow said when opening the Batu 12 Kampung Baru MCA building here yesterday.

Last week, PAS said it would not table the Bill in Parliament next month as previously scheduled.

DAP is contesting the parliamentary by-elections for Bukit Gelugor on May 25 and Teluk Intan on May 31.

Liow said the DAP was good at misleading the people to fish for votes.

“It (DAP) also thrives on making the people unhappy with Barisan Nasional and instigating them to be anti-establishment, but not being able to put in place any development plan for the people,” he said.

Liow urged the people not to allow themselves to be deceived by DAP anymore.

“Instead of apologising to the people over PAS’ hudud move, the DAP is out to further confuse the people on the implications of hudud,” Liow said.

He added that this showed DAP’s agenda was to win elections instead of caring about the people’s interests.
