PETALING JAYA: A policeman was forced to fire his gun in an attempt to disperse a fight between two groups of suspected gang members in which one of them was killed.
South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Kamarul Zaman Mamat said Cpl Jalil and L/Cpl Rozahan were patrolling around Taman Sentosa, Klang, when they came across the gang members nearby Jalan Dato Abdul Hamid at around 1.50am yesterday.
“They were fighting each other using machetes and motorcycle helmets.
“One of them then pulled out a gun before shooting at his rivals, causing the policemen to intervene quickly,” he said.
ACP Kamarul Zaman said the gunman then started shooting at the policemen.
“L/Kpl Rozahan then fired his gun a few times to disperse the gang members,” he said, adding that one suspect was apprehended while the others fled in a black Proton Perdana.
The arrested suspect was identified as G. Rajasekaran, 29, who has a criminal record.
Three wounded men aged between 31 and 43 found at the scene were rushed to Hospital Klang.
However, one of them, identified as 31-year-old M. Ganeson, died from a gunshot to his chest.
All three victims have no criminal record.
ACP Kamarul Zaman said police also recovered two parang, a revolver, five bullets and a motorcycle from the site.
“Initial investigations revealed that a group of five to seven men alighted from a black Proton Perdana and started attacking another group which was standing nearby Jalan Dato Abdul Hamid.
“We are investigating possible motives behind the attack, including revenge,” he said.
The case has been classified as murder and is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
