RITA Rudaini, Erra Fazira and Sarimah Ibrahim have found themselves part of a nasty list being circulated online.
Harian Metro reported that an anonymous netizen had listed the local celebrities among 10 Janda Berhias, which literally means “women who got divorced while still in their wedding attire”.
It is a term used to describe women whose marriages ended almost as soon as they started.
The three artistes condemned the creator of the list, which had also included fake phone numbers next to their names.
“Enough of looking down on single mothers and divorcees like me.
“The more you do such things, the more people will perceive divorcees as cheap, disgusting and ‘low-class’,” Rita, whose marriage to national footballer Mohamad Aidil Zafuan ended last year after nine months, was quoted as saying.
Other celebrities on the list were Nora Danish, Maya Karin, Jasmin Hamid, Nabila Huda, Noniswara, Fauziah Latiff and Fiza.
> A syndicate in Kedah has been offering “express marriages” to Muslim men who face opposition in their wish to be polygamous.
Kedah Islamic Religious Department (Jaik) chief assistant director (enforcement) Syeikh Ahmad Faisol Omar said they had detected 68 couples in the state who had used the service.
He said many of those who had sought the service of the syndicate, which was actively operating in Kuala Kedah, were high-ranking government officers.
“Of the 68, 43 were polygamous couples, while the rest were those with various other problems which made it difficult for them to marry,” he said in a Harian Metro article.
He added that initial investigations had shown that the marriage approval documents issued by the syndicate were false.
