KUALA LUMPUR: The interviews to recruit Chinese police constables start May 25, conducted by six interview panels covering the whole nation.
Bukit Aman assistant director of personnel (recruitment) Senior Asst Comm Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the sessions would cover the southern, northern, eastern, central and Sabah and Sarawak zones.
“Each board comprises officers from the ranks of assistant com- missioner, superintendent, deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent. Two Chinese personnel will be a part of each board,” he told a press conference yesterday.
SAC Saiful revealed that so far, 5,951 application forms had been issued.
“We have received 3,314 forms. A total of 2,094 were from male applicants. After the interview, we will start choosing the cream of the cream,” he said.
Applicants who got through the physical test and interview will be selected to undergo training later this year.
“The women will start on Aug 3 and the men on Nov 10,” he said.
Two applicants have a Mas- ter’s degree.
“That is the highest qualification that we have received to date,” SAC Saiful said.
Apart from the two, 42 applicants are degree holders, 34 have a diploma and the rest Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
“There is nothing we want more than having a force represented equally by all races. We realise that there are two things that are keeping the Chinese from joining the force – (bad) perception and not knowing about the recruitment,” SAC Saiful said.
He said the roadshows held all over the country had resulted in having the Chinese change their perception of the force.
“It really helps the recruitment process,” he said.
SAC Saiful also thanked all Chinese NGOs, Chinese Chambers of Commerce and individuals who had helped the force in recruiting more Chinese personnel.
“We did not expect such overwhelming support. We have even extended the application deadline to Monday,” he said.
To date, there are 1,974 Chinese personnel in the force, including 481 constables. Presently, nine constables, including six men, are undergoing training.
