PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been assisting AirAsia with the airline’s shift to KLIA2 and will continue to do so.
The airport authority in a statement, said that between midnight of May 8 and 9 the terminal handled over 60,000 passengers travelling on AirAsia flights.
"The AirAsia migration was not without hiccups. However, MAHB had immediately extended support and assistance to resolve the issues faced by AirAsia, just like how Malaysia Airports worked together with other airlines to ensure smooth operations,” it said.
MAHB clarified that there were some operational problems but this was the norm with such large numbers of passengers in a new terminal.
It also clarified that those hiccups were not caused by the new and more advanced system, adding that other aspects of airline operations are being reviewed on a daily basis to ensure smoother operation.
"Malaysia Airports had advised the airlines to review their manpower planning and resource availability for ground handling activities.
"Malaysia Airports had also deployed its own manpower to assist airlines with many aspects of operations," it said.
MAHB also said that it had advised AirAsia to look into several important areas such as its high number of gate changes, which was inconveniencing passengers.
"With the airline’s assurance to minimise these changes, the situation should improve for passengers," it said.
