Off to jail: Mohd Azaharil being led away after his sentencing in Ipoh.
IPOH: A trader has been sentenced to a total of 31 months in jail by two magistrates for stealing, possessing water meters belonging to the Perak Water Board and disposing of them.
Mohd Azaharil Hisham Abd Zamin, 32, committed six offences between April 14 and 17 at several commercial buildings in Pasir Puteh here.
Magistrate Suhaima Mohd Noor sentenced him to 17 months’ jail for three offences.
DPP Muhammed Fauzi Md Yusof said policemen raided the accused’s house in Pasir Puteh on April 17 and found five water meters and component parts inside a motorcycle basket.
In another court, magistrate Nursyafiqah Noorinda jailed him for 14 months for three more offences and fined him RM1,000.
Mohd Azaharil is facing at least four more similar charges on Friday.
Meanwhile, mini-market owner R. Jennyfer, 25, claimed trial in three different magistrate’s courts here for disposing of and having in her possession some of the water meters stolen by Mohd Azaharil at her shop in Jalan Tun Perak.
