KUANTAN: A former director of the state National Department for Culture and Arts is facing two charges in the Sessions Court over a bribe and a falsified invoice.
On the first count, Mohd Sukarno Abdul Wahab, 56, is accused of accepting RM7,000 from Sulaiman Ismail in return for approving a quotation for the supply of costumes from Gandik Emas Enterprise and for approving three government orders on Jan 10, 2011.
On the second count, he is charged with presenting a falsified order document and invoice for RM3,500 each to the Pahang National Department for Culture and Arts for the supply of technical equipment and crew for the 2011 Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day rehearsals.
He is charged under Sections 17(a) and 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
Another department officer, Ahmad Shah Jaafar, 35, is accused of conspiring with Mohd Sukarno by presenting a falsified government order and invoice under Syarikat Azizi bin Mohammad for RM3,500 each.
The offence was allegedly committed on Sept 7, 2011 at the department office here.
Mohd Sukarno’s wife Asiah Hashim, 48, is charged with accepting the RM7,000 from Sulaiman in front of a furniture shop in Jalan Beserah here on Jan 10, 2011.
Azizi Mohammad, 49, is charged with providing Mohd Sukarno with a RM3,500 invoice for the supply of technical equipment and crew for the 2011 Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day rehearsals.
All the offences are punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday.
Judge Nik Nasimah Nik Mohammad set bail at RM13,000 with one surety on both counts for Mohd Sukarno, RM6,000 for Asiah, and RM4,000 each for Ahmad Shah and Azizi.
He scheduled May 6 for re-mention.
DPP Shafinaz Shabudin from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission represented the prosecution.
Melissa Sukri represented Mohd Sukarno and his wife while Noor Adilah Zaharian appeared for Azizi. Ahmad Shah was unrepresented. – Bernama
