GEORGE TOWN: Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, who claims in a Facebook posting he had to mandi kerbau (unable to bathe properly) each time he goes to Selangor, will not back off from his attack on Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim over the state’s water crisis.
He said he did not wish to engage in any “he says, she says” comments.
“I have said my piece and I maintain my stand. Take it or leave it,” he said, when asked about the flak thrown at him over the Facebook posting that labelled the mentri besar a “bugger” and asked Khalid to step down from the post.
Up to yesterday, the posting had garnered 80 “likes”.
In his posting, Ooi said while he was currently based in his hometown here, he also owned a house in Subang Jaya which he returned to every fortnight.
He said the water rationing caused him to “practically mandi kerbau”.
At the end of his posting, Ooi wrote: “Sack that bugger.”
Khalid had reportedly said Ooi had no right to call for his resignation over the water shortage problem.
“I don’t think he has the power,” a news report yesterday quoted him as saying.
Ooi said the message behind the posting was to ask the Selangor government to stop water rationing immediately.
“This is your commitment to the rakyat to solve and fix the problems. No ‘if’, no ‘but’! That’s Pakatan Rakyat’s accountability to the people who put us there.
“Fix the problem or else the people will fix us,” said the blogger-turned-politician, who is serving a second term as MP.
Asked if his outburst would sour DAP-PKR relationship, Ooi said the issue was beyond party matters.
He said many people in Selangor were suffering due to the protracted water crisis there.
MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Tee Yong had reportedly said Pakatan Rakyat, especially the DAP, should not make Khalid a scapegoat over their collective incompetence in handling the water crisis.
“The DAP cannot wash its hands of the crisis by pinning the blame entirely on Khalid. As part of the state government, DAP should be accountable too,” Chua said in a statement on Friday.
