KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has refuted allegations that United States President Barack Obama was pressured not to meet Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his visit to Malaysia.

"Who is to pressure Barack Obama? Obama is the president of a super power. We are only a small country," he told a press conference after chairing an Umno Supreme Council meeting.

Anwar had alleged that Obama was pressured not to meet him during the visit, which begins tomorrow.

On whether he would discuss the issue of Anwar running down the country and his leadership abroad in his meeting with Obama, Najib said:

"I do not know. We will see. I will tell you after meeting Obama."

Najib said the government would ensure complete security during the three-day official visit of the US President.

"God willing, all will be safe. I will ensure all would run smoothly," he said.

On the proposed meeting between PAS and Umno on the hudud law issue by Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Najib said:

"We do not know the proposals of PAS. We are not aware of what the proposals are. If PAS wants to present to us, we are prepared to accept and look at what PAS is proposing," he said.- Bernama
