Facebook date ends in murder and suicide

A 22-year-old man shot dead his Facebook girlfriend in Jabalpur, northern India, when he found out she was middle-aged and already married.

He then took his own life, Malaysian Nanban reported.

It was reported that Vineet Singh, from Muzaffanagar in Uttar Pradesh state, shot dead 45-year-old Jyoti when they met on Friday after being Facebook friends for three years.

The mother of three from Jabalpur allegedly used a picture of a young actress in her Facebook profile, leading Vineet to think she was a 21-year-old woman.

Police said it was a case of a jobless youth and a bored housewife making friends on the social network site and that the murder was prompted by Vineet’s extreme hurt and anger when he found out that Jyoti had lied to him.

> The Government is taking measures in stages to resolve problems faced by the Indian community, including the issues of birth certificates, citizenship and social ills, Tamil Nesan reported.

Quoting Indian Progressive Front (IPF) president Datuk M. Sambanthan, it said there were many children who did not have birth certificates because their birth was not registered.

He advised parents to act responsibly to avoid problems in future.
