KOTA KINABALU: The DAP must stop PAS-led Kelantan from tabling a Private Member’s Bill for the implementation of hudud law in the state, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Sunday.
He said that the DAP should be steadfast and tell their Pakatan Rakyat partner PAS to call off the move to table the bill which was against the Federal Constitution.
Liow said the move to table the bill was aimed at creating disharmony in a multiracial society. He added that it would be difficult for other Muslim members of parliament to reject the bill if it was tabled, as Muslims would not be able to go against Islamic law.
“We should not allow them (PAS) to table the bill. We will not budge on our stand,’’ he said, adding that MCA, Gerakan, the Liberal Democratic Party and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) have jointly made a stand against the bill which is planned to be tabled in June.
Liow, who was in Sabah to talk to MCA members of the party’s transformation programme and also meet with Chinese community leaders, said that the hudud issue was of concern to the Chinese community.
“We urge the DAP to stop PAS from moving the bill which is against the Federal Constitution.
“DAP should be responsible to ensure that PAS does not make the country a theocratic state,’’ he said.
