Penang mourns passing of Karpal Singh, says Guan Eng in eulogy

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state government mourned the untimely and unexpected passing of Karpal Singh.

In his eulogy, at Karpal's funeral at Dewan Sri Pinang on Sunday, Guan Eng, who is also the DAP secretary-general, said the state would honour Karpal by celebrating his accomplishments and realising his aspirations for justice, integrity and freedom.

Earlier, the public paid their respects from 8.30am until 10.15am.

It was an emotional moment when Auld Lang Syne was played as the casket bearing Karpal's body was brought into the hall.

The authorities had some difficulties bringing in the casket as the building was jam-packed with people.

A procession will later take place to mark Karpal's final journey.

The procession will make stops at places dear to Karpal - the Penang High Court, his office in Green Hall, the Penang state assembly building, his alma mater St Xavier’s Institution and state DAP party headquarters in Rangoon Road - before proceeding to the Batu Gantong Crematorium.
