Bluefin-21 resurfaces to rectify technical problem

PETALING JAYA: The autonomous underwater vehicle, Bluefin-21, was forced to resurface yesterday morning in order to rectify a technical issue.

A media release from the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) yesterday said after the AUV was resurfaced, its data was downloaded on deck.

“Bluefin-21 was then redeployed and it is currently continuing its underwater search.

“The initial analysis of the data downloaded this morning indicates no significant detections,” JACC added.

In an earlier statement, JACC had said that up to 11 military aircraft, three civilian aircraft and 11 ships would be assisting in today’s search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

“Today, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority has planned a visual search area totalling about 55,151sq km.

“The centre of the search areas lies approximately 2,087km northwest of Perth,” it said.
