KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung and
its telecommunication partners rewarded eager buyers of the Galaxy S5 with prizes and giveaways when the much-awaited smartphone went on sale.
The S5 hit store shelves simultaneously yesterday at five locations nationwide, including Celcom Blue Cube and DiGi Concept Store in Sunway Pyramid and Samsung Experience Store at Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.
Pensioner Abdul Hamid Husin, 62, who was the first customer in line for the S5 at Celcom’s store, was rewarded with a free Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab 3 Lite.
“I am very excited and this is the first time I have won a prize,” he said.
The company also sweetened the deal for other buyers of S5 by offering the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite for only RM55 while stocks last. The Tab 3 Lite retails for RM699.
At each venue, 55 customers who were in line were randomly picked to receive goodies such as RM200 cash vouchers and S5 phone covers.
Samsung chose 55 because this was its fifth Galaxy S smartphone and it represented five elements – fun, life, fit, speed and style.
The S5 boasts an improved camera with faster autofocus, health monitoring features such as a heart rate sensor and a Download Booster, which can speed up the download of large files by using both WiFi and the telco’s network.
“For the next two weeks, the S5 will be available exclusively from DiGi, Celcom, Maxis and Samsung Experience Stores,” said Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd IT and mobile business vice-president Ng Long Shyang.
Only the Charcoal Black and Shimmery White colours are available for now, as the Electric Blue and Copper Gold are only expected to arrive in two months.
Samsung’s new smartwatches, the Gear 2 and Gear Fit, can also be purchased from its stores now.
The S5 retails for RM2,399 while the Gear 2 and Gear Fit are RM899 and RM599 respectively.
