KUALA LUMPUR: About 5,000 illicit sticks of cigarettes were seized from a restaurant near Pandan Cahaya 2, Ampang, in an operation codenamed Ops Outlet.
A man, believed to be the restaurant manager, was detained to facilitate investigations into the sale of contraband cigarettes.
The restaurant was only one among many outlets raided on Friday night in a nationwide effort to crack down on retailers selling smuggled cigarettes. Customs officers were despatched to three locations in the Klang Valley to conduct the raid.
The two other places raided were in Danau Kota and Port Klang.
Ops Outlet was launched on March 5. It is an intensive nationwide operation to curb the sales of illegal cigarettes. Fifteen outlets around the country were raided between March 31 and April 4.
