PETALING JAYA: The remains of Suresh Mohan, one of those who died of suspected drug overdose at a music festival that ended at the wee hours of Saturday here, have been cremated.
His distraught family members declined to talk about his death but it is learnt that they had claimed his body from the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre Saturday night and cremated his remains yesterday.
His sister said the family was still grieving over his death.
A family friend, who declined to be named, added that the victim’s brother and father had gone to the Cheras crematorium while his mother had fainted earlier and remained at home. The friend said Suresh, 28, was the eldest child in the family.
Six people reportedly died of drug overdose and nine others collapsed after allegedly consuming methamphetamine at the Future Music Festival Asia 2014 in Bukit Jalil at around 1.30am on Saturday.
The police said the victims all tested positive for drugs and the deaths were ruled as overdose. Three people are reported to be in critical condition.
The three-day festival, with international acts like Deadmau5, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrel Williams, Rudimental and Porter Robinson, had been rocked by reports of drug abuse among concert goers, leading to 29 arrests for possession of drugs, such as ecstasy and marijuana.
Those detained included 16 foreigners. They are being remanded until March 18.
