Special water project for Klang Valley

KUALA SELANGOR: A special water collection system will be built at a former mining land here to supply water to over a million consumers in the Klang Valley, says Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

He said the system, called Hybrid Off River Augmentation System (Horas), can supply about 600mld of raw water.

“The RM405mil project on a former 235ha mining land in Kampung Sungai Darah is expected to be completed in July next year,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the project here yesterday.

Khalid said the Horas project, which would be carried out in two phases, would supplement the Langat 2 water treatment project.

“This system, which is a combination of off river storage and horizontal collector well, involves stormwater catchment and underground water collection,” he said.

The raw water from Horas would be channelled to the Sungai Selangor plant, he added.
