Cops scare off duo trying to rob ATM

PORT DICKSON: Two men who were attempting to prise open an automated teller machine (ATM) ran off and left their tools behind when a patrol car arrived at the scene.

The two were busy trying to prise open the ATM at about 3.12am yesterday when the two policemen in a patrol car approached them.

The policemen were alerted by the public who saw the men loitering near the ATM which was located at a kiosk outside an army camp at Jalan Pantai here.

In their haste to escape, the men left behind a steel cutter, a screw driver, gas canisters and a torch light which was still switched on.

It is learnt that there was some RM250,000 in the machine.

During checks at the scene later, police seized a Kia Sportage vehicle believed to have been left behind by the suspects.

The car was parked next to a hotel opposite the ATM.

It is understood that the police are investigating the contents of CCTV recordings at the kiosk.

A manhunt has been launched for the two who are believed to be still in the area.
