KAJANG: The people should not allow the Opposition to simply create a situation that calls for an election to be held.
“Can we live in a situation where election is held one after another? Is that fair?
“If this happens, when will we have time to do work and serve the people?” asked Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He added that if the Opposition planned to have other kinds of movements similar to the “Kajang move”, the voters should punish them.
Earlier, PKR’s strategic director Rafizi Ramli had said that PKR might organise other initiatives like the “Kajang move”, which resulted in the by-election in this constituency.
Muhyiddin said since it was Rafizi who raised the idea, he should volunteer to step down to allow others to contest in his Pandan parliamentary seat.
“The idea reflects their political greed. I don’t think the people will buy this plan of theirs.
“I am sure voters will be tired of being made to go to the ballot boxes without any good and valid reason,” he added.
On the Kajang by-election, the Barisan deputy chairman said there has been significant improvement in voters’ acceptance of Barisan compared to the last general election.
Heartened by the improvement, Muhyiddin has asked all the 16 district voting centres to intensify their campaign activities and reach out to as many voters possible.
“The campaign period is still a long way and we do not want to be over confident.
“As the underdog, we realise that we need to work harder to secure a victory for our candidate Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and this is what we will be doing,” he said after visiting four voting district centres here.s
