Nurul Izzah divorce mention postponed to April 1

KUALA LUMPUR: The ongoing divorce case between Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and husband Raja Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim has been postponed to April 1.

The application for postponement was made after the appointment of a new lawyer, Zulkifli Che Yong, to represent Raja Ahmad Shahrir.

Both plaintiff and defendant were not present at court.

Lower Syariah Court judge Ab Malek Awang who presided over the divorce case (number 14001- 055-0023-2014) fixed April 1 as the date of mention.

A conciliation committee will also be present to assist both parties in coming to an amicable decision.

The case was mentioned for the first time before the same judge on Jan 21.

Counsel Normawaddah Ramli acted for Nurul Izzah and counsel Zulkifli Che Yong on behalf of Raja Shahrir Islandar, replacing Muhamad Nakhaie Ishak.

In late December last year, the 34-year-old PKR vice-president filed a divorce petition against her husband, Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim at the lower Syariah Court under Section 47 Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.

The fasakh (annulment of marriage) petition was believed to have been received by 35-year-old Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar on Jan 16 this year.

The couple were married in May 9 2003 and have two children; a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy.
