KUALA LUMPUR: Half the 40,000 cases reported in Selangor last year have been solved, said state police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan.

This showed the commitment of the Selangor contingent in preventing crime and its optimism in boosting the solving rate annually, he said.

"Selangor records the most crimes compared to the other states. So, this success is due to the relentless efforts being carried out.

"About 7,000 cases were received from January until today," he said.

"The crime index was successfully brought down to four percent in the first two months of this year, surpassing our target of five percent," he told a media conference after the  handing over of duties for the Gombak police chief.

He said Gombak successfully reduced its crime index by 26.6 percent for January to February compared to the same period last year.

ACP Abdul Rahim Abdullah, who was Gombak police chief since 2008, has been appointed Bukit Aman Marine Deputy Commander. ACP Ali Ahmad, Bukit Aman assistant director of Administration Management, took over from ACP Rahim. - Bernama
