KOTA BARU: Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V has expressed his disappointment over use of the new media to hurl slander, hatred and offend religious sensitivities.

He said the new media was also being used to destroy peace and security enjoyed by the people.

"The new media is being used to distort facts. Let me remind all parties that if the prevailing peace and security is destroyed, nobody will benefit from it, instead everyone will suffer " he said when opening the second term of the 13th State Assembly here.

He urged people of various races and religions to live in harmony and exercise tolerance without touching on the sensitivities of other religions.

On the RM1.7bil Kota Baru-Kuala Krai Expressway to be built by the federal government, he hoped all quarters would give their assistance to ensure its completion and not turn it into a political issue.

Sultan Muhammad V also hoped that the development of new towns like Tok Bali, Sungai Terah and Lojing would be given priority and cooperation between the state and federal governments was needed to make it a success.

He called on both governments to enhance strategic partnership to meet the needs of the people like affordable housing in line with the concept 'One Family One Home', and address high cost of living.

The Sultan urged local authorities to improve the solid waste management services and management of cleanliness to create a clean and attractive environment. - Bernama
