Idris Jusoh: PBS system to be teacher-friendly

PUTRAJAYA: The reformed version of the school-based assessment (PBS) system would be teacher-friendly, said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh on Tuesday.

He said the ministry would announce the details of the changes on March 29.

"The new PBS system will be more focused on teaching so that teachers can concentrate on doing their job," Idris told reporters after meeting former vice-chancellors of local universities at Universiti Islam Malaysia.

The PBS system was introduced in primary schools starting with Year One pupils in 2011, and in secondary schools with Form One students in 2012.

Teachers had complained that the system increased their workload due to the time spent in keying data to the online PBS application system.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof announced last Sunday that the PBS system had been put on hold temporarily pending further announcement from the minister.
