A WOMAN who was caught on television kissing the Indian Congress Party vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Guhawati during his Assam tour in North India on Wednesday, was burnt to death by her husband, Tamil Nesan reported.
Police said the victim, Bonti Chutia, succumbed to her burn injuries, while her husband, Someswar Chutia, had also sustained 85% burn injuries in the incident which took place in Guhawati.
Initial investigation showed that the man got angry over his wife’s action. He doused her with petrol before setting her ablaze. He then set himself on fire.
> In another incident almost the reverse occurred in Ajmer, North India. A woman locked her husband in the house when he tried to stop her from visiting her parents. The husband, according to a report in Makkal Osai, had appealed to her for hours to free him.
Finally, Rajesh Shirvastava, 40, called the superintendent of police on his mobile phone and was freed.
He was reportedly terrified but refused to file a complaint against his wife, Chaya.
Rajesh married Chaya three years ago. The dispute began when Chaya wanted to visit her parents but Rajesh refused as he did not want to be left alone. When Chaya began visiting her parents who live in Somalpur, about 15km from Ajmer, Rajesh started complaining.
