KLANG: A late night supper for five friends ended in tragedy when four of them were killed after their Perodua Myvi skidded and rammed into a brick wall of a goldsmith shop before bursting into flames.
The dead were driver Ang Chin Fu, 18, Lee Boon Huat, 19, Chong Chee Seng, 21, Chew Yee Ying, 19. Chai Chee Seng, 18, however, escaped with minor injuries.
Chai said Ang had tried to take a U-turn at a traffic light near Batu 10, Kapar, at about 3.30am but lost control and rammed into the wall.
“All of them lost consciousness after the impact and when I noticed fire coming from the front of the car, I got out immediately,” he said, adding that his clothes caught fire as he tried to escape the burning vehicle.
“I removed my clothes and tried to get back to the car to help my friends but the police were there by then and stopped me from going near,” Chai said when met at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital.
North Klang police chief ACP Shukor Sulong said initial investigation showed that the vehicle was travelling at a high speed before it went out of control and hit the wall.
He added that the bodies of the victims had been sent to Hospital Tunku Ampuan Rahimah here for post-mortem.
