SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is widely expected to vacate his post as Acting Transport Minister soon, wants the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to be represented in the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to bolster aviation security.
Hishammmuddin, who described his spell at the ministry thus far as “extremely productive”, said it would be good if the RMAF and DCA could collaborate in such a manner as this would allow them to better monitor the country’s airspace and security.
The Defence Minister said this was important as evidenced in the Sept 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Centre in New York where terrorists hijacked commercial jets and crashed into the iconic twin towers.
At a press conference yesterday after visiting the Perkasa National Service Camp here, Hishammuddin was asked to comment on a move by the MCA to reverse its decision not to accept ministerial as well as other government positions following the party’s extraordinary meeting on Sunday.
The Transport Minister’s post has traditionally been allotted to the MCA but the party had decided against accepting those posts after it performed poorly in the 2013 general election.
Hishammuddin said he had spoken with MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai on the matter and it was now left to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to make a decision.
“I spoke to Liow and I know the MCA is not in a hurry (to fill the ministerial posts).
“We will leave this to the national leadership and take it from there,” he said.
