KUALA LANGAT: Police seized 10 luxury vehicles worth RM1.4mil, believed to have been used by smuggling syndicates, along the beaches near Batu Hampar, Jugra, Banting here early Thursday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said all the Toyota vehicles were abandoned by the syndicate members during the 6am raid.

"The cars seized were a Toyota Camry, two Toyota Vellfire, a Toyota Alphard and six Toyota Estima. Most of their registration and chassis numbers have been changed.

"No arrests were made in the case because all the members of the syndicates managed to escape," he told reporters.

All the vehicles were believed used to transport contraband cigarettes and liquor for the local market. The bust came after a month-long surveillance.

Shukri said the syndicates were actively smuggling contraband products along the coastal areas of Selangor and often changed their venues to fool the authorities.

Of the 10 vehicles seized, five were reported missing around Puchong, Salak Selatan, Jinjang, Kajang and Putrajaya. - Bernama
