LUNDU: Tan Sri Adenan Satem has finally made his first public appearance here after being announced as the next Sarawak Chief Minister on Wednesday.
Adenan is accompanying Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on a visit to SMK Lundu on Friday, one of the largest schools in Adenan's Tanjung Datu constituency.
Interestingly, Adenan made no reference to his appointment as the fifth Chief Minister. But he thanked Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg for developing Lundu as an ecotourism destination.
Johari, a PBB deputy president, had been touted as one of the potential successor to Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, along with senior vice-president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Speaking in a mixture of Iban, the Sarawak Malay dialect and English, Adenan described Lundu's multiracial population as an example of unity and harmony.
"For hundreds of years, we have been living in harmony here with the Bidayuhs, the Chinese, Selako, Iban and Malays without racial problems. Other people should follow our example," Adenan said in his speech.
