PETALING JAYA: The flagship digital product of the Star Media Group, The Star Online, was ranked the top local news website, drawing 1.01 million unique visitors last December.
According to the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA) and comScore Inc., the total pool of the Star Media Group’s digital products recorded 1.5 million unique visitors within Malaysia.
Other than The Star Online, the group’s digital assets include StarProperty.my, Propwall, iBilik, myStarjob.com, StarMotoring, Carsifu and mStar, and these portals attracted 496,000 unique visitors.
MDA is the apex representative body for online publishers, advertising agencies and digital service providers in Malaysia, while comScore is a leading Internet technology company that measures what people do as they navigate the digital world.
“We have succeeded in maintaining The Star Online as the country’s most popular news website, and to achieve almost 500,000 unique visitors for the other websites is a significant milestone,” said Serm Teck Choon, The Star’s head of products (digital).
“There are ongoing efforts to consolidate our position as number one, as well as to raise the profile of our other websites.
“We are confident that The Star’s digital products will continue to be a mainstay of the net-savvy Malaysian public,” he said.
Among the local news websites, Malaysiakini came in second with 838,000 unique visitors, followed by Sinar Harian (763,000), The MalaysianInsider (669,000), Berita Harian (612,000), myMetro (Harian Metro online) (590,000) and Utusan Malaysia Online (476,000).
The Star Online was the only local news site ranked in the overall top five Malaysian websites.
The numbers in the report do not include international traffic.
For Malaysia, comScore Media Metrix reports are based on data from more than 150,000 people.
The reported unique visitor numbers only measured desktop-based visitors, and did not include those using mobile and tablet devices.
