MALACCA: A total of 19 Buskers Corners will be formed in 10 major cities in Malaysia to promote street musicians in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
Dubbed as “adding soul to the cities’’, the initiative kick-started in historic Malacca with the highest number of places for street musicians to showcase their talents.
Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said that the effort was introduced by the ministry in collaboration with the Malaysian Buskers Club and local councils.
“The Buskers Corners aim to provide a platform for street performers to exhibit their talents to the public besides promoting art and a healthy culture.
“Members of the public who are entertained can feel free to give any amount as a token of appreciation,” he told reporters after launching the pilot project at Dataran Sungai Melaka in Jalan Merdeka here yesterday.
Also present was Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron and other state leaders.
