KUALA LUMPUR: MCA has challenged PKR to come up with a good reason to Kajang voters on why they should choose Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as their representative.
MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said it was strange for Anwar, who wanted to contest in a state seat in Selangor while he was serving as an MP in Permatang Pauh, Penang.
“He must explain to the public why he wanted to contest in Kajang.
“But I am sure that this is an orchestrated political game created by the Opposition,” he said at the party’s Chinese New Year open-house here on Friday.
The Kajang state seat fell vacant following the resignation of its assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh of PKR, paving the way for Anwar to be fielded in the by-election.
Dr Wee said PKR should solve its own internal problem and not drag the Kajang constituents into it.
On the MCA’s choice of candidate, he said he had received good response from local division leaders on the matter.
“Despite being busy for the Chinese New Year preparations, the party members are very committed in winning back the seat.
“I hope they will keep up the momentum until polling day,” he said.
Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Saie Kie also announced that her wing had set up a by-election committee to assist the chosen candidate to win the Kajang state seat.
She said Selangor Wanita MCA chief Ong Chong Swen had been appointed the committee chairman, while Loh Lai Kuen had been selected as the committee deputy chairman.
“They will be charged to woo voters, especially the women constituents, to support Barisan,” she added.
Heng also expressed hope that the Barisan component parties would work together with MCA by choosing the right candidate to present a strong challenge to Anwar.
