KOTA KINABALU: A man was able to carry out his disabled daughter and pull out his two grandchildren in the nick of time before fire overwhelmed his house at Kampung Likas, near here.
All documents and valuable were lost but 64-year-old Akil Idris was grateful his family was saved.
“In all the chaos, all I could think of was my daughter and my grandchildren,” he said.
He was seen carrying his 30-year-old daughter while holding on to his grandchildren aged 10 and 14 moments before his two-storey concrete-wooden house was completely engulfed in flames at noon on Thursday.
The fire also destroyed 18 houses, leaving scores of people homeless.
Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department chief Hamsa Isnurdini said the fire spread rapidly among the wooden houses because they were built close to each other.
