Teacher told to remove head scarf gets apology from school

KOTA TINGGI: A principal and a school board chairman have apologised to a teacher, whom they had instructed to remove her tudung (head scarf).

In a meeting held at the Dewan Terbuka Kampung Johor Lama, the principal Chiew Swee Tuan and the board chairman Phang Ah Ngang apologised for their actions.

Choi Yi Shan, 25, forgave the duo as she wanted to focus on her job and did not want the issue to drag on.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman, who was also present at the meeting together with other community leaders, said the police had submitted their findings to the Deputy Public Prosecution Unit for further action.

“We can only drop the case if the complainant retracts it but hopefully the issue ends here,” he said.

Supt Rahmat added that the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant from conducting his duties.

Meanwhile, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he hoped that the Education Ministry would investigate the matter and ensure that such an incident does not recur.
