Ex-MCA chief unhappy his people not given key party posts

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek is unhappy that seven important appointed party positions did not go to those aligned to him.

The former MCA president said the positions were secretary-general, three posts of central committee member and three state chairmen.

Dr Chua said the seven posts were listed under the peace plan he and then deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had signed and was witnessed by reputable people on Nov 28 last year.

Liow who was elected party president on Dec 21 last year announced a long list of appointments on Jan 2, including Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, who is not aligned to Dr Chua, as secretary-general.

Dr Chua who showed a copy of the plan during a press conference here Thursday said it was done for the sake of party unity.

He said the plan also included fielding two candidates from his team and another two from Liow's team to contest the four vice president posts. All the four won on Dec 21.

Apart from this, 13 central committee member candidates from Dr Chua's team and 12 from Liow's team were also fielded for the 25 central committee member posts.

Eleven from Dr Chua's team and 10 from Liow's team won.
