SHAH ALAM: A 27-year-old construction worker claimed trial to a charge of attempted murder of a man by allegedly stabbing the victim’s stomach and left abdomen.
Tai Hou Xeng pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him at the Sessions Court on Monday.
He was accused of stabbing Amir Deen Kadai, 35, using a knife with the intention to cause Amir’s death at 3.30pm at a house in Damai Residence, Kemuning Utama, Seksyen 32 here on Jan 2.
He was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code and faces up to 20 years in jail upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Salwa Asmary Abdul Rahim did not offer bail as the offence involved a weapon and non-bailable.
Lawyer V. Ayasamy asked the court to consider the presumption of innocence of the accused and grant bail.
Judge Asmadi Husin then allowed bail at RM15,000 with one surety.
The case is set for mention on Feb 12.
It was learnt that the victim is still in the hospital recuperating from his wounds.
