Naughty boys responsible for shooting spree, say city police

KOTA KINABALU: Police have ruled out that the “shooting spree” by three groups in various parts of the state capital was in any way linked to Sulu armed groups or the ongoing Lahad Datu intrusion trial.

“We are investigating some leads,” said city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Jikun.

“This is the work of budak nakal (naughty boys),” he said, urging the public not to panic.

ACP Jauteh told a press conference that the “irresponsible groups” targeted glass doors and window panes at some establishments in Inanam, Luyang and the city centre.

“We believe they moved in separate directions but carried out their random acts simultaneously at premises along the roadside,” he said.

Police have set up a special team to hunt down the suspects.

Declining to elaborate on the progress of the investigations, ACP Jauteh said they were looking at CCTV footage and working on leads.

“We need public cooperation and hope people with any information will come forward to assist in our investigations,” he said, adding that the public could call the police hotline at 088-221 191.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman also urged the public not to panic.

He said the police were beefing up security throughout the city with more patrols and roadblocks.
