Cops shoot foreign trio in self-defence

JOHOR BARU: Three men, believed to be foreigners, were shot dead by the police near a workers’ quarters in Ulu Tiram, about 20km from here.

State police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said about an hour before the 4.45am incident yesterday, three workers at a nursery were allegedly robbed by the suspects.

A team of policemen was patrolling the area under Ops Cantas Khas. They saw the men acting suspiciously and started to approach them.

“One of the suspects then fired two shots at the officers while the other two waved parang.

“The policemen were forced to retaliate in self-defence,” said SDCP Mohd Mokhtar, adding that the suspects died at the scene.
