KUALA LUMPUR: Two Foreign Ministry senior officers have been charged at a Sessions Court here with making false claims amounting to US$126,681 (RM378,000) while they were attached to the Malaysian Embassy in Washington two years ago.

Shahril Effendi Abd Ghani, 47, was accused under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

He allegedly used two documents containing fake details involving expenses incurred during an Apec meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2011.

His colleague Mohd Hadtamizi Abu Bakar, 46, was accused of abetting him.

Both pleaded not guilty to the offences.

Judge Rosbiahanin Arifin allowed bail at RM30,000 each and ordered the men to surrender their passports to the court.
