KANGAR: A 17-year-old student has been arrested for allegedly injuring a teacher with a hand-held curved knife called kerambit.
Kangar district deputy police chief Deputy Supt Ismail Che Isa said the SM Kuala Perlis student was picked up at his house at about 1am yesterday.
“A kerambit which was used to injure the teacher was recovered from him. The weapon is believed to be modified from a pair of scissors,” he told a press conference at the police headquarters here.
He said the boy had attacked the teacher, who is in his 50s, at about 8am on Thursday after the latter scolded him for his coloured and punk-styled hair which was against the school’s discipline guidelines.
DSP Ismail said the teacher lodged a police report after receiving outpatient treatment at the Kuala Perlis health clinic for the injury on his face.
He said the case would be investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt with a dangerous weapon as well as Section 7(1) (a) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 as the kerambit is listed as a scheduled weapon.
He said police obtained a remand order from a magistrate’s court here yesterday to detain the boy for four days until next Monday to facilitate investigations into the case.
DSP Ismail also said police would monitor the students of the school to prevent them from getting involved in criminal activities.
