JOHOR BARU: The Johor Royal Council respects the wish of corporate figure Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim to return three Johor state honours recently.
Its secretary, Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli, said the decision of the council had been submitted to the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar as the Ruler and head of the state honours.
"The Johor Royal Council respects the wish of corporate figure Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim. Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar wishes all the best to Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim," he said in a statement Wednesday.
He said the laws and regulations of the honours of the crown of Johor provided that a 'Datuk' of Johor could cease to become a member of the honour on any reason by returning the symbol of honour.
His statement referred to the action of Muhammad Ali, the former Chief Executive Officer of Johor Corporation (JCorp), in returning all three honours to the council on Dec 27.
Muhamad Ali, on Dec 28 had said his action followed a statement by Abdul Rahim on Dec 5 over his article in a local newspaper which was published on Dec 2.
The Johor Royal Council had asked Muhammad Ali to clarify the article titled "Demanding right, atoning for the past" (Menuntut Hak, Menebus Masa Silam').
The honours returned were Darjah Datuk Seri Paduka Mahkota (SPMJ) which he received on April 8, 1996 and Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Johor (DPMJ) which was received on April 8, 1984, both bearing the title 'Datuk', and the Darjah Setia Mahkota Johor (SMJ). - Bernama
