KUALA TERENGGANU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has made available the transfer of vehicle ownership involving thumbprints by both parties.
This is among the moves introduced under the mySIKAP system to facilitate all motor vehicle and drivers licence transactions nationwide, effective Nov 1.
"The seller and buyer need to register at any RTD counter and provide their thumbprints. They don't have to be present at the same time or even at the same counter, as long as both thumbprints are recorded within seven days," RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said.
He said the new system was aimed at preventing any integrity issues which often occurred in transfer of title cases.
He explained that the second sale and purchase could be made online as the thumbprints from the previous transaction were already on record.
Ismail said the new MyLesen programme to obtain drivers licence would be introduced early next year.
RTD will collaborate with driving institutes to attract more people to obtain drivers licences as an estimated three million road users had no licence, he said.
"The fees will be cheaper too, RM191 for motorbikes compared to the current RM261," he said. - Bernama
