Two cops detained over murder of debt collector in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: A 38-year-old debt collector was shot at in the abdomen after a misunderstanding at an entertainment outlet in Auto City, Bukit Mertajam at 2.30am on Monday. 

He was pronounced dead around an hour later at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

Two policemen, aged 30 and 55, and a 34-year-old woman, were detained to assist in police investigations. 

Penang police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said one of the policemen was believed to have fired the fatal shot following an argument.

He added that the victim was an ex-Emergency Ordinance (EO) detainee.
