PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has defended the amendments to the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA), saying that nobody expected crime to escalate after laws like the Internal Security Act (ISA) were repealed.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had promised to repeal the ISA on Malaysia Day two years ago but had not foreseen that the crime rate would increase after the laws were abolished.
