MCA deputy youth chief will not defend post

IPOH: National MCA Youth deputy chief Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said he will not be defending his post the upcoming polls in MCA Youth.

He said he was ineligible to contest for positions in the wing's central committee due to the newly-amended age limit.

He said the age of qualified candidates in the coming polls had been reduced from 45 years old to 40 years old and below.

Dr Mah, who is 48 years old, said it was time for him to "get down from the bus".

"This is to pave the way for a younger leadership to transform and rejuvenate the wing," he told reporters after officiating the opening ceremony of the state-level Chinese poetry competition at SJK(C) Wan Hwa (II) here Friday.

It was reported that MCA Youth national chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, who turned 45 this year, would also not be defending his post.

When asked on whether he would contest for posts in the party central committee, Dr Mah, who is also state MCA Youth chief, said it was too early to talk about it.

"Party matters aside, I want to focus on rendering my services to the people and help solve issues with regards to the Chinese communities," said Dr Mah, who is the only assemblyman (for Chenderiang) representing MCA in Perak.
