KUALA LUMPUR: Violent action by protesters "forced" police to fire tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd at Dataran Merdeka, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh.
"They threw all types of objects at the police and forced their way through to move towards Dataran Merdeka. We were forced to act to disperse the crowd," he said.
